WOW we just returned from a weeks vacation and I’m having such a hard time getting back into the swing of things! Two guesses where we went ….
We had a blast but I can’t remember the last time I walked that much in a day lol. After two days at Universal and a day at Animal Kingdom we were pooped. Good thing we had a coupld days to rest up at the hotel.
The weather was awesome, just a few ten min sprinkles and not to much sun so it was cool on the first day. Hardly any crowds or lines. We pretty much just walked right into Hogwarts Castle and right up to the ride. I tried getting some pics inside the castle but they just didn’t come out. With no lines, we were sort of rushed through lol. It truly was amazing to see how well they reproduced everything.
The train ride back and forth between the two HP areas was fun and a nice little break. No wait at all in the morning but by the end of the day it was a bit of a wait. Still …. no more than 20 min I think so couldn’t complain.
Hogesmead was fun. Loved the snow effects! In both areas you really had to look around because there was always some little thing going on that could easily be missed if you were not paying attention.
We didn’t stay till dark either night but I bet it looks fantastic after dark.
Lunch was at the Three Broomsticks and we had the most fantstic Fish & Chips we have ever eaten!!! It’s a MUST if you visit! All of the plates looked great in fact.
I didn’t get any pics of Diagon Alley but it was my favorite place of all. Just rows of shops with a lot of activity. It was funny to see more adults waving aroud wands than children. Knockturn Alley was pretty dark and creepy but a great place to cool off.
Don’t miss the shows around the parks as they were all fun! Poseidon’s Fury show was great with a very kewl walk through a tunnel of whirling water all around you.
Butter Beer ….. not a fan at all lol. It tasted like watered down cream soda with carmel topping. The frozen version was even more flat tasting. I did however enjoy the Elixar flavored water! One was watermelon, the other blueberry, and both were not over powering but just the right amount of flavor for the water.
As for the rest of Universal …. we were amazed how much had changed in the ten plus years since we were last there. Personally, I found it a bit sad that most every ride has change to a 3D immersive type ride where you wore 3D glasses. I miss the old style rides myself. If you get motion sickness easily you might not enjoy many of the rides they have now.
Our last park day was at Animal Kingdom, mainly to see the new World of Pandora. Unfortuanately, it’s still to new and we were not willing to wait three hours to ride either of the two rides they have. It was neat to see how they created the world but truly …. there isn’t much to do there. You can see the world in less than an hour, there is one resturant which is more like a cafeteria style eatery and one large gift shop. We were just a tad dissapointed in it. We did have some fantastic BBQ at the Flame Tree resturant and the Lion King show is worth watching. I wish I had even half the energy those monkeys did!!
Last but not least …. our hotel: Silver Lake Resort. It’s was FANTASTIC!!!! Below you can see the view from our balcony and the room. They have hotel rooms with Kind beds then 1 and 2 bedroom condos. We had a great location, top end of building 1700 with a view over one of the two pretty pools.
The room was not only very clean but there was almost a complete mini kitchen. Fridge that worked better than any mini fridge I’ve ever had in a hotel room, microwave, coffee pot, dish towels, dish soap, paper towels, hot pads, cutlery with a cutting board and a full service for four – dishes and silverware. The AC worked great, was quiet and there was a ceiling fan as well. Decent size closet with room safe and nice size bathroom. Very comfy bed as well!
Near the pool was a nice bar with drinks and bar foods. Inside near the lobby was a mini market with a grill that had the best burgers! Greek salad with chicken was pretty good as well. Really nice game room and fitness area. Staff was friendly and very helpful. Great place to stay and fantastic location. About 20 min to Universal and 5 mins to Disney.
All in all ….. GREAT VACATION!!!
